Santa Monica Beach

I travelled to Los Angeles with a friend last week to meet a client, Mr Fantasy, for his album release party.

We did it all, from cycling to Muscle Beach to cruising down the coast to Malibu, as well as hitting all the usual tourist spots.

Nothing can beat driving through the Hollywood hills blasting the GTA San Andreas soundtrack for a hit of nostalgia.

One thing that struck me about LA was the wealth disparity. There’s something quite dystopian about being driven through the city in a self-driving car and seeing so many people in need along the way.

Overall it was a trip that I’ll no doubt be telling people about in years to come.

It’s been almost a year since I returned home from backpacking around Australia & Asia. I’ve slipped back into some bad habits over the winter and I want to break free of the algorithms to live more in the now.

One step I’m taking towards this is adding this now page to help me stay focused on the things that matter most to me, both personally and professionally.

What I’m focusing on:

  • Slowing down, living in the present and being less distracted by my phone.
  • Building the habit of reading more often again; I’m currently reading Zen by Shunmyō Masuno.
  • Planning my trip to New Zealand and move back to Australia.
  • Diving deep into full stack development using React Native, Expo, Fastify and Supabase to help a friend build Dropee.

Today was also my first cold dip of the year. It felt good to finally be back in the sea!

Lately, I’ve been exploring the world, chasing curiosity and learning as I go. I’ve also been focused on building fast, accessible websites with Astro, inspired by Utopia and Every Layout.
